400+ Exercises, One Source of Truth
A massive expansion to our exercise library and a new system to power smarter workouts.
I’m excited to share a major milestone for Chavo: we’ve added 400+ exercises to our database, and completely rebuilt how we manage exercise data behind the scenes.
Why This Matters
Exercises are the foundation of everything Chavo does. Every workout plan, every AI-generated session, every personal record you set — it all starts with having solid, reliable exercise data. Without it, our agents can’t give you personalized recommendations that actually make sense.
This update isn’t just about adding more exercises. It’s about building the infrastructure to make Chavo’s AI truly smart.
What’s New
The expanded library now covers:
- 17 muscle groups — from your lats and traps to your glutes and calves
- 19 equipment types — dumbbells, cables, kettlebells, machines, barbells, resistance bands, and more
- All skill levels — beginner-friendly movements, intermediate progressions, and advanced exercises for those ready to push harder
Each exercise includes detailed instructions, targeted muscles, difficulty ratings, and equipment requirements. This level of detail is what allows our AI to build workouts that are actually tailored to you — your goals, your equipment, your experience level.
A New Foundation
I’ve moved the dataset into source code, giving me full control over every piece of information. Every exercise that lives in Chavo has been intentionally curated in order to match the system. This also unlocks future opportunities for refining, expanding and automating our exercise dataset. No more relying on messy third-party data.
This also opens the door for some exciting future improvements:
- AI-generated exercise demonstrations — I’ve been experimenting with ways to generate visual guides on the fly, so you can perform every movement with confidence and safety.
- User-submitted exercises — Eventually, I’d love to let anyone create custom exercises and potentially contribute them to the master database.
Just the Beginning
Right now we’re sitting at 400+ exercises, but this is only the first batch. I’ll continue expanding the library, adding more variations, more equipment options, and more specialized movements as Chavo evolves.
